I reported the results of FOI request to TDC to find out how much had been spent repairing groynes (or breakwaters) in Frinton, Holland and Walton
This didn’t tell me which groynes had been repaired. So I made another FOI request to determine which groynes had been repaired at Holland and Walton, the last year there were repairs.
- 2011/12 for Walton
- 2009/10 for Holland
The answers are
Holland
|
2, 6A, 7, 7A, 8, 8A, 9, 9A & 11
|
Walton
|
94, 96, 97, 98 & 99

Now it may seem we’re not that much further forward but the numbers are actually painted on the edge of the sea wall, sometimes a bit faint. The groynes at Holland are near the sailing club at Holland Haven, the numbers are written in yellow paint right at the edge of the promenade.
I’m not exactly sure I’ve got the numbers right but I think these are pictures of groynes 6 and 6A. Though all the groynes near here are in pretty much the same state of disrepair.
Having been to have a look some of boards do look new. It also looks as though two or three of the uprights closest to the sea wall are new too.
People at a nearby cafe remember people coming to put the boards in.
And they remember the sea washed most of the boards away the same day.
So that was £12,249.02 well spent.
Oh and the sea wall near here looks as though it could do with some attention too.
