{"id":1231,"date":"2013-01-19T13:08:31","date_gmt":"2013-01-19T13:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/?p=1231"},"modified":"2013-01-19T13:08:31","modified_gmt":"2013-01-19T13:08:31","slug":"aerial-photo-of-clacton-and-holland-beach-shows-effect-of-lack-of-groynes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/aerial-photo-of-clacton-and-holland-beach-shows-effect-of-lack-of-groynes\/","title":{"rendered":"Aerial Photo Of Clacton And Holland Beach Shows Effect Of Lack Of Groynes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>January 2013, Tendring District Council have announced their plan to restore beach at Clacton and Holland.\u00a0 The photo accompanying the press release clearly shows effect on the beach of the lack of groynes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=1232\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1232\" title=\"calctonBeach\" src=\"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/calctonBeach.png\" alt=\"calctonBeach\" width=\"715\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/calctonBeach.png 715w, http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/calctonBeach-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 715px) 100vw, 715px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>South of the pier there is a good beach.\u00a0 The sea is at the far end of the groyne, which is at least 150 yards long.<\/p>\n<p>Yet a little north of the pier the sea as at the sea wall, as it is further north near the sailing club.\u00a0 Note this is\u00a0 NOT HIGH TIDE, as there is about 150 yards of beach south of the pier.<\/p>\n<p>The only way this can happen is for the beach to be lower north of the pier.<\/p>\n<p>Why is the beach lower?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Lack of groynes<\/li>\n<li>The groynes which are there lower than the sea level at high tide<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The aerial photograph was not taken at high tide, here are two photographs I took from the pier at high tide. Both photos were taken within about 30 seconds.\u00a0 I pointed the camera in one direction and took a photo, turned around and took another.<\/p>\n<p>Looking south from the pier you can see a beach.
