{"id":1641,"date":"2013-09-24T09:50:41","date_gmt":"2013-09-24T08:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/?p=1641"},"modified":"2013-09-24T09:50:41","modified_gmt":"2013-09-24T08:50:41","slug":"syria-both-sides-have-chemical-weapons-liam-fox-on-daily-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jeremyshiers.com\/blog\/syria-both-sides-have-chemical-weapons-liam-fox-on-daily-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria Both Sides Have Chemical Weapons &#8211; Liam Fox On Daily Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liam Fox says we know both sides in Syria have chemical weapons on Daily Politics 5 Sept 2013, but Andrew Neil lets it pass.<\/p>\n<p>Liam Fox&#8217;s claim comes about 10 minutes into a 15 minute discussion with Peter Hain and Andrew Neil<\/p>\n<p>For the impatient here&#8217;s a short clip in which Liam says we know both sides have chemical weapons or more precisely &#8220;both sides have chemical weapons, we know&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MA3KJmVEaPc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Here is the full discussion which I strongly recommend you watch<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2uzxRGAjQ4o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Peter Hain made several strong points, for example,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>chemical weapons account for just 1% of the casualties,<br \/>\nwhy not focus on the other 99%.<\/li>\n<li>Although this is a civil war, there are more than 2 parties involved<\/li>\n<li>Sunni v Shia<\/li>\n<li>Saudi v Iran<\/li>\n<li>Russian v US<\/li>\n<li>Assad is backed by 40% of population, in part because they fear the alternative\u00a0 &#8211; a Sunni lead genocide against Shia(Alawite) and Christian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Why am I writing about this?<\/p>\n<p>The main stream media in UK is churning out a relentless diet of<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Civial War\u00a0 In Syria<\/li>\n<li>Assad Bad<\/li>\n<li>Rebels Good<\/li>\n<li>Support US Good<\/li>\n<li>Russia Bad<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>there is virtually no alternative discussion although it&#8217;s not to hard find with just a little digging on Google, for example<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/witnesses-of-gas-attack-say-saudis-supplied-rebels-with-chemical-weapons\/168135\/\">mintpressnews.com\/witnesses-of-gas-attack-say-saudis-supplied-rebels-with-chemical-weapons\/168135<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/news\/turkey-syria-chemical-weapons-850\/\">rt.com\/news\/turkey-syria-chemical-weapons-850<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.veteranstoday.com\/2013\/09\/14\/syria-rebels-ordered-10-tons-of-sarin-nerve-agent-in-turkey\/\">www.veteranstoday.com\/2013\/09\/14\/syria-rebels-ordered-10-tons-of-sarin-nerve-agent-in-turkey<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.veteranstoday.com\/2013\/09\/20\/the-ghouta-chemical-attack-where-are-the-missing-children\/\">www.veteranstoday.com\/2013\/09\/20\/the-ghouta-chemical-attack-where-are-the-missing-children<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2013-09-09\/syria-101-ultimate-infographic\">zerohedge.com\/news\/2013-09-09\/syria-101-ultimate-infographic<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m not saying these reports are correct, just that there are alternative points of view.<\/p>\n<p>So why isn&#8217;t UK main stream media reporting on them?<\/p>\n<p>Surely it can&#8217;t be because it&#8217;s easier to persuade a country to go to war if they are feed a simple story of good versus evil.\u00a0 Once the story becomes more complicated people tend to just scratch their heads.<\/p>\n<p>Although the conflict in Syria is referred to as a &#8220;civil war&#8221; it seems to me a combination of<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>a religous war &#8211; Sunni against everyone else<\/li>\n<li>a regional war based largely on religion with<br \/>\nSaudi Qatar Iraq on one side<br \/>\nIran Syria and Hezbollah on the other<br \/>\nIsrael and Kurds looking after their own interests<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I have been so slow in posting this events have overtaken with the Al Shabab (Sunni) attack on a shopping mall in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>In the interest of balance wikipedia state there are about 1.6 billion muslims in the world of which 80-90% are Sunni,\u00a0 so around 1.3 billion.\u00a0 I am certain it is just a tiny minority who resort to violence. It would be silly to suggest it is only Sunni muslims who resort to violence, Christians, Hindus &amp;\u00a0 Tamils are among the many others who like to join in.<\/p>\n<p>But if\u00a0 1% of 1% of Sunnis do that&#8217;s still around 130,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Liam Fox says we know both sides in Syria have chemical weapons on Daily Politics 5 Sept 2013, but Andrew Neil lets it pass.
