Fences At Walton Mere – 14 Jul 2013

Last week a fence was erected along Mill Lane in Walton

I’ve posted before about fences erected by Titchmarshs at mere Walton-on-the-Naze Residents Furious New Fences Block Footpath

There are currently footpath applications

  1. To continue footpath 48 from North Street to Orlando Court
  2. Along the sea wall in Mill Lane

Interesting in Essex County Council 2007 report into the previous footpath 48 application both John Titchmarsh and David Todd are reported as having submitted evidence that

  1. They have walked the footpath
  2. They have seen others walk the footpath

That would be the one they have just blocked off.

In case you’re interested the file reference is TOPS/3143 and the report is dated 13 Feb 2007.

This would seem to mark Titchmarshs as hypocrites.

They certainly have no respect for due process.  Here is an email sent by EA reminding them they have erected fence without consent

Interesting that EA’s only sanction is to ask for the forms to be filled out!

Given Titchmarshs seem so keen to fence in the mere it is surprising they, and associates, are fighting the application to delete byway45.  But this would give them vehicle access through Halls’ yard to the old tide mill which they own.

Jack Robertson, who owns a yard in Mill Lane, has written several times to object.  But Mary Morris of Essex Legal Services has wryly observed

It is hard to see Councillor Robertson as a champion of peoples access given his opposition to recent village green application (for Mill Lane)

It is also hard to see him as a champion for peoples access given this fence at his yard

I have heard people say (which means it may not be true, but perhaps it is) the next move is to erect a fence between Halls yard and the mere and then continue across the mere to meet the fence and North Street.

I have also heard it said TDC have agreed to sell Tesco some of the land they own near Mill Lane and Titchmarshs the rest.

Unless fencing in the mere is an effort to spite people who live near the mere, it is presumably something to do  with Titchmarsh’s plan to develop the mere.

I have heard people say (which means it may not be true, but perhaps it is)  Titchmarshs regard Walton residents as vermin only fit to be cleared in order to make room for more worthwhile people.

But the sea floods Mill Lane on some high tides, I guess that’s why there are flood gates.

millLaneHighTideFeb2008aCould this be a problem?

I guess the only way around this is to build some sort of dam to prevent the sea reaching the mere and Mill Lane.

I wonder what Environment Agency and Natural England will have to say about that
