Google gave the following results for a search on “qatar syria gas pipeline”
You can see for at least a year people have been reporting on Qatar’s plans to build a pipeline through Syria to Turkey in order to deliver gas to Europe.
The premise is Assad has to go, he’s Alawite a kind of Shia muslim. Iran is Shia as is Iran. Qatar, Saudi and Al-Qaeda are Sunni. According to wikipedia Shia and Sunnis have been bickering, fighting or just killing each other for around 1300 years.
You can see why Russia wouldn’t like this, they want to have a monopoly on selling gas to Europe. Incidentally Russia has been having a little local difficulty with Chechnya which is largely Sunni. Chechnya is about 500 miles from Syria.
So it never was about wimpy things like concern for children being killed and maimed.
It was about much more important things – money and power.
It’s time to watch Whoops Apocalypse again.
